Introduction and Background

Village Care Development Foundation is  not-for-profit civil society organization was established in 2012 as an answer to a local communities’ pertinent but silent call to fill evident gaps in research, documentation and community mobilization for realistic social economic interventions’ implementation using the abundant human and natural resource potential for holistic transformation of the primary units of development; the peasant families. This was premised on the conviction of the possibility of exploiting the existing opportunities to cause positive change by aggregating the outcomes of networking the local community with communities with a similar or superior value systems.

After conducting due diligence in respect of a baseline survey conducted in Kenga Sub County which was considered a representative sample of the population in a civil administrative area of a sub county in Kagadi, the findings revealed that there was a need to mobilize, sensitize, organize the communities to marshal efforts and propel their own positive change.

The organization therefore started humbly by drawing a strategic intervention plan; prioritizing education, OVC support, Sanitation, environment and consensus building on a value system based on solidarity, sharing and faith in God.

Based on community priorities, the VCDF began by with an OVC program because within a population in Kenga Sub County only, there were 1,300 critically vulnerable children with 415 school age children out of school.
